Tom Brady vs Patrick Mahomes - the Goat vs the likely MVP, and it doesn’t get much better, does it? I can’t wait to watch this game because it has all the makings of a classic. For Brady and company, this is nothing new. They’re playing in their 8th straight AFC Championship, which is an NFL record and they will not be afraid of the bright lights. On the other side, the Chiefs have a lot of players who have never made it this far, and their quarterback has 18 total career starts. However, with the way we’ve seen Mahomes play in each big game, he’s had it seem like the moment is never too big for him. For the Patriots to win this game, they’ll have to protect Brady; the key to beating New England is hitting Brady. It’s crazy though, because I said the same thing last week and look what happened! Protecting Brady and Sony Michel can help a ton. Both teams’ weaknesses coming into the playoffs were their defenses, yet last week, both played arguably their best game of the season. Both quarterbacks had their way with the other’s defense in their week 6 shootout. It’s supposed to be extremely cold, but I don’t expect that to impact these quarterbacks with the weapons they possess. For the Chiefs, they must expect the unexpected. For a game of this magnitude, Belichick will have something new up his sleeve to try and prevent the success Mahomes had in their first encounter. Mahomes threw for 352 yards 4 touchdowns and 2 interceptions in the 43-40 loss. What’s scary is that the Chiefs’ offense only had 9 points at halftime and exploded in the second half to score 31 points. They pushed New England the way probably no young quarterback has in the Belichick era. I feel like this Chiefs team is special, and like the 2013 Broncos, and the offense has too many weapons for pretty much any defense to handle. The Chiefs’ defense also plays much better at home, and I feel like the pass rush with Dee Ford, Justin Houston, and Chris Jones will get home for the Chiefs and that the MVP Patrick Mahomes will show no moment is too big for him, and the Chiefs will advance to their first Super Bowl since 1969.
