Record for Confrence Championship: 2-0
Record for the playoffs 9-3
The Chiefs face the Eagles in a rematch of Super Bowl 57 in which the Chiefs were victorious 38-35.
Kansas City is on the cusp of a three peat something never before done in the Super Bowl era. While the Eagles are looking to redeem themselves and get the ring they missed out on back in 2022.
The key for the Eagles is simple…Sack Mahomes!!! Don’t just contain him, actually bring him down and put the Chiefs in third and longs. The Chiefs probably won’t have much success running the ball so it may take the Eagles doing something they typically don’t do, which is blitz, in order to get to Mahomes.
Offensively , for the Eagles Jalen Hurts will have to find the answers against what will be a very creative Steve Spagnuolo defense. If he can be prepared to handle the blitz, be able to throw the Chiefs out of their base defense and put them in nickel, it’ll allow Philly to do what they really want to do, which is hand the ball to #26 Saquon Barkley.
As for Kansas City they need to stop Saquon and force Jalen into being uncomfortable. Jalen isn’t the most fluid athlete in the world forcing him to throw rolling to his left plays into the Chiefs hands, and Hurts does like to hold the ball for longer than he should which could create sack opportunities for Chris Jones and George Karlaftis.
Offensively, Vic Fangio defenses typically want you to have long 12-13 play drives because they expect you’ll make a mistake somewhere along the way. The Chiefs since their week 11 loss to the Bills have only turned the ball over one time and in any game it’s in your best interests not to turn the ball over, BUT THIS GAME, especially if Mahomes can play mistake free football and the rest of the Chiefs offense doesn’t fumble or have demoralizing drive killing penalties, KC
should have success.
In the end I believe in Kansas City off two weeks of prep with Andy Reid, Mahomes and Spags to find out the weaknesses in the Eagles and complete the quest for a three peat becoming the greatest dynasty in NFL History and Mahomes separating himself from the pantheon of all time great NFL Quarterbacks.
