Winner: New York Jets Last year, I had the Jets as day one winners, and they repeated their success this year. Drafting Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, and Jermaine Johnson, they addressed several needs. Gardner was my CB2 and will give the Jets the #1 corner they’ve been looking for since Revis, Wilson will give Zach Wilson the stud wide receiver he needs, lastly, Jermaine Johnson can give them pass rush help.
Loser: Green Bay Packers The Packers drafting never ceases to leave me bewildered. Having picks 22 & 28, they drafted Quay Walker and Devonte Wyatt, by no means horrible picks, but with Devante Adams and Marquez Valdez-Scantling departing, I thought Green Bay would look to add a wideout.
Winner: Detroit Lions The Lions were able to keep Aidan Hutchinson in Michigan, giving them a player that fits the culture of what Dan Campbell is trying to build. Detroit traded up from 32 to 13 to select dynamic wide receiver, Jameson Williams from Alabama. This gives Detroit another great weapon to pair with T.J. Hockenson, Amon-Ra St.Brown, and D'andre Swift. Williams is coming off an ACL injury but is ahead of schedule and should have an immediate impact in Detroit.
Loser: Malik Willis
Willis seemed to be a lock as the QB1 for this year’s draft, after impressing in the combine and at interviews. Willis didn’t even get selected in the first round, as the only QB that went was Kenny Pickett to the Steelers. Willis should be an early pick on day 2.
Winner: Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles selected Jordan Davis with their first pick, giving them someone who can take over from Fletcher Cox, and they hope Davis can become more of a pass rusher. But then, Philly was able to snag AJ Brown from the Titans for peanuts, giving Jalen Hurts another weapon with Devonta Smith.
Winner: Kansas City Chiefs The Chiefs were a wildcard in this draft, they had needs at wide receiver and edge rusher, but they selected corner Trent Mcduffie at 21, a need they’ve had for some time, who can be an instant impact player for KC. Then at 30 KC selected edge rusher George Karlaftis. The Chiefs only had 17 sacks as a team last season and hope Karlaftis can immediately help improve that in 2022.
