The Malik Willis Dilemma

You’ve probably heard about how this isn’t one of the best quarterback classes and how nobody is really sold on a QB1 this year.

This is why Malik Willis should be the consensus QB1 for the 2022 NFL Draft.

When you think about today’s quarterbacks this isn’t your childhood drop back and pass guys with little mobility. The only elite quarterback who isn’t mobile is Tom Brady other than that majority of these guys can get out of the pocket and make throws on the run and can take over games with their talent alone.

Look at the Bills and Chiefs in the AFC Divisional Round that was arguably the highest level of quarterbacking in one game we have seen.

Back and forth haymakers by Mahomes and Allen leading to a 42-36 win for the Chiefs. Mahomes and Allen combined for 707 yards 7 touchdown passes while also leading their team in rushing with Allen rushing for 68 yards and Mahomes rushing for 69 and a touchdown.

In 2022 to compete to go to the highest level you need a quarterback that can match those guys. This is no longer the league where you can build around a game manager and win the Super Bowl.

Out of all the quarterbacks in this draft class none has the limitless potential of Malik Willis out of Liberty University.

Willis is listed at 6”0 ½ 219 lbs and has an absolute cannon arm and can make big plays with his legs. He finished last season with 2,857 passing yards 27 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while rushing for 878 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns.

Willis is the absolute definition of boom or bust prospect. I can’t see there being a scenario where he’s just solid his potential is just too high. If you believe in your coaching staff to be able to develop a young QB this is the one to take.

Remember Mahomes, Allen, Herbert these guys were all seen as boom or bust prospects and as we all know they BOOMED.

Seeing Willis in a system with a young offensive mind like in Atlanta with Arthur Smith or even a surprise in Minnesota pairing him with Kevin O’Connell and letting him sit behind Kirk Cousins for a year these would be situations where I could see him thrive in.

With all the Quarterback talent you have to take a risk and if you can’t get one of the already established guys there’s no reason not to take a risk on a quarterback who can be one of the most dynamic in the league. He has a Mike Vick skillset and if you can mold that and help him develop you’ll have someone who can go toe to toe with the elite.

Look at the AFC alone with Mahomes, Allen, Watson, Herbert, Jackson, Wilson, Burrow, Carr and Ryan

In the NFC Stafford, Brady, Rodgers, Murray, Presscott,

You need somebody who has the potential to beat those guys because in the playoffs more likely than not going to have to see 2-3 of these guys in thie postseason for the forseeable future.

Don’t let the thought of the massive bust scare you away from the fact his potential is through the roof.

Malik Willis is QB1
